Year 3 - Elm and Willow

During Spring term, the topic focus is history and science.

We will learn how to use a range of sources to find out about the Stone Age period, including comparing life in the Stone Age to the present day. We will investigate the importance of artefacts and archaeology to preserve historical information.

In science, we will learn to identify and describe the functions of different parts of flowering plants and explore the best conditions for life and growth; we will explore the part that flowers play in the life cycle of flowering plants, including pollination, seed formation and how seeds travel.

In music, we will learn to play the recorder and develop our performance skills and confidence; in French, we will learn the words to name colours and in RSHE, we will learn to recognise difficulties and challenges in achieving success and to make healthy and safe choices.

 Superheroes In Training

During Autumn term, Year 3 will be learning how to be super juniors! They will not only be improving their reading, writing and arithmetic, building on their skills gained in Year 2, but will also be learning about the local history; they will be creating a piece of Pop Art inspired by Roy Lichtenstein's work; they will make a dance sequence to a piece of music and learn some basic French phrases.

We are looking forward to having a lot of fun!

Important Documents for Year 3 Parents

    Homework

Reading - children are expected to read at least 4 times per week. You can help by asking your child about what s/he is reading.  Reading record to be  signed by parent/carer. Records are checked in class every Friday ready for Celebration Assembly.  Let's get 100% reads every week!

Spelling - new spellings are sent home every week, which are to be practised at home in your Spelling book. We will test a number of these spellings through a spelling dictation on a Friday. Spelling records will need to be in school on a Friday to be checked and new spellings to be put in.

Times Tables - by the end of Year 4 we hope that every child will be fluent in all times tables and division facts up to 12 x 12. We advise regular practise using 'Hit the Button' at home.

Homework grid - Please see the homework grid with a variety of topic-based activities in the file list above or click here. You should complete at least 4 of these each term. These can be handed in whenever they are completed.
